| Gene Block is Chancellor Emeritus of UCLA, having served as Chancellor from 2007 to 2024, one of the longest tenures of any UC chancellor. Under his leadership, UCLA’s annual research funding grew from $900 million to more than $1.72 billion, the university completed a $5.49 billion fundraising campaign in 2019, and UCLA significantly expanded access for low-income and first-generation students. An internationally recognised neurobiologist, his research has focused on the neural mechanisms behind circadian rhythms and sleep-wake cycles, and he holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stanford University. |
