| Dominique de Villepin is a French statesman, diplomat and writer who served as Prime Minister of France from 2005 to 2007 under President Jacques Chirac. Born in Rabat, Morocco, he trained at Sciences Po and the École Nationale d’Administration before a diplomatic career that led him to serve as Chief of Staff to President Chirac from 1995 to 2002, then Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Interior. As Foreign Minister he gained international prominence in 2003 for challenging US plans to invade Iraq at the UN Security Council, and he has since written numerous books of poetry, fiction and history. |
